Biased opinion By wes Let me start by saying that I teach a digital photography class at the local university, and I've seen / used / taught about all the major brands and many minor brands of digital cameras, and I think all camera manufacturers is a appropriate for different people with different needs. That being the case, the Alpha900 is incredible. The resolution not only record, but the brightness of each pixel is quite good (with the right lens). The image stabilization in a full-frame sensor is the first (and so far, only). 5 frames per second? At 24.6 megapixels? This is a test of knowledge of electronics Sony. The viewfinder is really an example of why "Live View" is more about marketing checklist, and is not really necessary, looking through the viewfinder is a joy.
However, the world is not all roses A900. If you have a collection of Sony / Minolta lenses, I hope we are all full frame. Yes, the A900 supports APS-C lenses, but there is no real advantage for them with this body on other Sony DSLRs. The A900 is "to find focus" better than previous Sony digital SLR, but the location of the focus points are not as well established as other Sony models. Although usually carry an external flash, so the lack of a pop-up flash is not a problem for me, many users is the lack of a being, at least, a nuisance.
And last but not least, is the post-production once the images are out of the camera. If all shoot in RAW (like me), and do much post-production, be prepared to lead his team to the knees. These files are huge, and everything wonderful resolution has a cost, which is the amount of computing power required pure.
Given the few warnings, the Alpha900 really is a great step forward in digital SLR cameras, in many ways. If you can justify the cost of this body, it really is worth having, and you'll be amazed at the amount of detail in a single image can have when nearly 25 megapixels.
